Danika Colucci is the mastermind behind Style by Danika and a fellow New Yorker! I stumbled across her blog through a mutual friend of ours and when I discovered she also went to Florida State I reached out to her to grab a cup of coffee. She's bubbly, down-to-earth and has a colorful personality to match her colorful style. Read on to find out what her perfect day in New York entails and her secret to getting cheap, salon quality facial treatments!
Please introduce yourself! Who are you, what do you enjoy, and what do you value in life?
Hi! I'm Danika. I enjoy spending time outside with the ones I love on a sunny day, water color painting, blogging, and vacations. My number 1 value in life/motto is the golden rule AKA "treat others how you want to be treated". My mom had me say this almost every day as a kid and it just kinda stuck with me so thanks mom!
What have you been up to since graduation?
Since graduation I've moved to Pittsburgh to work as an assistant buyer and then was transferred the NY office of my company 2 short months later so now I live in Hoboken and work in the city.
Describe your personal style in three words.
Depends on my mood but most of the time: Feminine/Girly. Classy. Colorful.
Why did you decide to start your blog?
To inspire others and also as a creative outlet for myself.
How do you find a work/life balance in your day to day life? Do you believe millennials can “have it all”?
Ah the ultimate challenge. Lately I've been learning to say "yes to me" more often which usually means saying no to others. If you've been dreaming of going home to a warm bubble bath, a glass of wine, and friends re-runs after a long day at the office and then your co-workers last minute decide to throw an after work happy hour on the calendar guess what? Its ok to say no and make time for you.
Yes, I think millennials can definitely "have it all" but sometimes you can't have it all right now and thats ok! I think everything comes exactly when its suppose to and we just have to learn to be patient (something I am working on myself).
Do you have any unexpected sources of creative inspiration?
I recently shifted my blog to a DIY focused and I have now found myself inspired by absolutely everything from the color of flowers on the street to food.
What would your perfect day in New York consist of?
Walking around central park ice cream cone in hand on 75 degree sunny day.
What is your favorite thing about yourself?
Do you have any style and/or beauty secrets?
If you live in New york, don't go out and spend hundreds of dollars on beauty treatments. There are so many beauty schools here that offer discounted services. Now I probably wouldn't trust a student with my hair but for facials and mani/pedis these places are great. My personal favorite is Dermalogica Academy where you can get amazing facial treatments for $20-$50 (these are usually like $150+ at a regular salon).
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Yes, follow your dreams! This may sound corny but I have met so many people who tell me that they wish they could start a blog like me and I always tell them they can! Don't hold back people. If there is something you want to do, go for it! Who cares if you fail, at least you tried and to me that is not failing.
Thanks for sharing Danika! Now what are you waiting for? Head over to her blog right now and get your DIY on!
